The last five years have seen a number of milestones in my life. Some of these might seem trivial to others, but I find them fascinating. When I left home (about a year after we graduated), I had no clue as to what my life would be like, but I had lots of confidence that it would interesting - and I was not wrong in that. So here is my list of recent milestones:

** I turned 60. I guess that we all did that, but I find it pretty remarkable - what is it about turning 60 anyway? In the 1970s, an attitude of our "youth generation" was summarized by the 'Who' in their song
"Talkin' 'bout my generation" with the line "I hope I die before I get old". I guess we are on the other side of the looking glass now.

** Debby Knight and I celebrated our 25 years of "living in sin" with a party that we held for our dance friends in the Concord Scout House, the place where we met at a contra dance. We had a potluck dinner and a dance, and we put a big blue X on the spot on the floor (see photo right) where we both remembered that we met.
Debby is the lower school science specialist at Cambridge Friends school (for some 30 years now). She is a great musician (Piano and Fiddle), and an all around amazing person - I feel blessed to have her in my life.

** Debby and I are now sometimes playing music with young (teens and 20s) musicians, as well as the usual aging cast of characters. It is exciting and inspiring (and sometimes a bit depressing!) to be on the stage with such amazing young talent.
The dance community has also changed as well, with lots of teens and 20s on the floor to join the older folks. Inter generational stuff is amazing!

** Debby and I have been producing at least one of our public dance series for over 25 years now. Here are some flyers for our dances. Debby and I play about 30 dances a year, and it is a joyful connection to the community. Thye photo at right is at the monthly dance at the Unitarian Church in Carlisle MA. We start the evening out with a potluck, and sometimes we have more than a half dozen sit-in musicians joining the band.

** I passed the point where I have now been living in my beautiful old Victorian house for more than half of my life.

** I have now been entirely self-employed for forty years - I am my own secretary, accountant, librarian, gopher, and yes, pointy haired boss as well. It's been a wild ride, and I plan to continue as long as I can. If you are curious about the kind of stuff I do, click here for a brief snapshot of some past projects. Since I have had some vision problems in the past year, I can no longer do much electronics work, but I continue to write software for the Mac - mostly for medical research at places like McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

The picture at the bottom is a view down my driveway to the building that I've worked in for most of this time.

I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the reunion - I hope that it will be an enjoyable time for all.

Best,
