Anne (Missy) Andorn Johnson writes on May 13:
I send my regrets that I could not come (covering for someone out ill at work and unable to get from an Atlanta
meeting to PA in time to join you all tomorrow). However, I am thinking about all of you, just the same.
Here is a synposis: Always interested in behavior I became a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, hung out in academics
caring for the seriously mentally ill doing research in the molecular biology of Alzheimer's disease, as long as
I could and finally figured I could touch more lives in industry (we shall see if that is true) developing new medications.
On the personal side, I married the love of my life who died too young (age 44) but gave me two beautiful stepsons
and together we had another beautiful son. All are grown and thriving in their own professions (Homeland Security,
information technology for a non-profit, and aerospace engineering, respectively).
Hope you all have great fun tomorrow - I am there in spirit and wish I could be in person - maybe our next one!

Sue Bissel and I are coming in Fri night to the reunion and booked a room at The Holiday Inn, West Chester.
They still have some available rooms and via internet the double rooms are $75/night.
It would be nice if others coming Fri stayed there too, or if we posted where we were staying or how
to contact each other Fri night, as there is no official gathering planned this year.
I am making big changes in my life, finding myself at the tender age of 57. I sing in a chorus (with Sue Bissel)
which I enjoy immensely. My Physical Therapy practice keeps going (18 years in July) and I find myself drawn to
a new and exciting career in a program called
HANDLE, which stands for Holistic Approach to
Neurodevelopmental Learning Efficiency. I am in the process of becoming a Certified HANDLE Practioner. For the
first time in along time, I notice that I have lots of opportunities in front of me. I am looking forward to seeing people again.
Sue Bissel and I are staying at The Holiday Inn West Chester Fri and Sat nights. Join us. Internet rates $75/night.
We have extra room if someone wants to share.

Chuck Tatum writes:
I will not be at the reunion.
Mary and I were married 5 1/2 years ago. We both took early retirement
at the end of 2002 (me after some 20 years at Rohm and Haas in Philadelphia).
Mary and I are now happily retired on Amelia Island, Florida...a somewhat sleepy and old
fashioned island on the Florida-Georgia border. We have six acres (almost a farm to us) on
the western side of the island on the marshes, and are about 1 1/2 miles from 13 miles
of beautiful beaches. There are six golf courses on the island, although we aren't real big golfers.
Finally, Okeefenokee National Wildlife Area is a short distance, so for us (biologist and chemist)
the area is ideal. We have recorded over 50 species of birds on our property alone, and had
a resident alligator in our pond for several months last year.
Becca and Carrie are both in graduate school (does it ever end???) at Columbia Univ. in NYC.
They are doing fine, and hopefully in the next year they will have real jobs.
My best to all at the reunion.

The website looks great. What fun to read the news about so many old freinds.
I plan to attend the reunion and look forward to seeing lots of folks that
I haven't seen in a long time. I have been living in Greensboro, North Carolina
since 1979 and have been working as a Physician's Assistant with the
Guilford County Health Department for 19 years. I have two kids who have both
fallen in love with the west. One lives in Montana and has a 4 month old baby and
the other lives in Colorado. Caroline and I are close to retirement and we may have
to head west too. After being introduced to folk music by George Adams and others
I have continued to enjoy music and play (mostly mandolin) in two contra dance bands.
See you in May. David

I am disappointed not to come to the reunion. My daughter Rebecca has dance performances
on May 14 and 15 that I cannot miss.
I live in Hampden, Maine, with my wife Emily, and daughters Rebecca, fourteen and Annie,
ten. My son, Asher, twenty-three, lives in Philadelphia and works as a journalist since he graduated
from Penn. He was another incentive to come down, but Rebecca has a higher claim right now. We moved
here in 1993 from Cambridge, where I lived and worked for seventeen years.
I took two years off from Amherst and worked a number of jobs in Washington, and got interested in
neuroscience and ethology. After Amherst I went to medical school at Case Western Reserve, then went to
Cambridge and became a child psychiatrist. I was married to Sheryl Julian, a roommate of Sue Bissell,
for ten years. She is the Food Editor at the Boston Globe, and we are close to her.
We are happy in Maine, where we can hike, climb, and canoe. I work for myself in a quiet office in
downtown Bangor, and I love the work. We get to mingle with Jim and Liz Maier now and then, which is a deep pleasure.
Westtown was a big turn in my life, and has colored it well since. Westtown is still in my dreams.

Huong Norton Payson writes that she is not planning to come to the reunion.
She writes: I will be in V.N. and certainly will think of the great time you all will have...
All the children have moved to Boston, Seattle - San Francisco - to join the working force.
I am freer than a bird - spending most of time in different locations doing charity work or for
sight seeing and learning.
My pet projects: Drilling wells in remote areas of V.N. - and helping four high schools in my former
village and the villages near by - so far I was able to drill 157 wells and sent 19 kids to the University of
Can tho ...
The spirit of Westtown is alive within my spirit ... in the spite of the loss of all - most of
our teachers - Teacher Rachael is missed by all of us no doubt!
I would love to have your visit at 2961 E. Menlo St., Mesa AZ 85213 in Spring, Fall, or Winter. Please,
call and drop by to make yourself at home.
Until we meet, my greetings to all of you with warm friendship.

Greetings,
I am sorry to miss the reunion this year but I am awaiting the birth of our first grandchild.
My husband has been retired for 8 years and we continue to enjoy relaxing days. I remain active
as a community volunteer and find most of the work rewarding. I am also training for a second triathlon.
I have not done as much swimming since I was on the team at Westtown. My husband is the owner of a
new steam launch and we will spend many days boating on nearby reservoirs. All is well.
Cheers to all of you,

Dear Friends,
So sorry that I will be unable to make it to the reunion. Our daughter, Amanda, is getting married the 14th,
and having the reception here at the Willits farm in Paoli. You all remember our Senior swimming party which was

very happy day! I just wish that I could be in two places at once.
Have a great reunion. I will be thinking of you!

Life is good, Living in the family place in New Hampshire with Jennifer Stevens and her two children Amira, 16 and
Noah, 14. James, 24 now lives in New York, though he sometimes helps me with my show Living on Earth on NPR.
Anastasia, 30, has just landed a tenure track job teaching US history and African American studies at Vanderbuilt
University in Nashville. I am deeply proud of them all, as they are sweet and wonderful people with bright creative spirits.
Work things are about the same. Environmental journalism is highly rewarding, even though much of the news is
hair-raisingly bad. Almost every day at work I use language tools honed by the tutelage of Teachers Judy Edelstein,
and Anne Wood and Masters Bernie Haviland and Tim Cronister. Masters Jan Long, Fred Swan, the Colonel and Teacher
Peg Poulis drummed the science stuff into my head that I also use almost every day on the job. Critical thinking
skills learning from so many including Master Earl Fowler also come into play. It is humbling and amazing to look
back and see how effective the Westtown experience was for me. Nearly flunking Master Burdette's "learn how to
build a house" shop course has still served me well in the practical world of home repair, and definitely
flunking room inspection which sent me to shovel shit at the farm opened a door for me into agriculture that
I call on for a lot of agriculture stories.
Since 2002 Jennifer and I spend as much time as we can spare from state-side duties by living in Cape Town, South
Africa, where we have a small house off the beach at Hout Bay. You can see pictures of our nuptials in Cape Town,
if you go to
http://www.home.earthlink.net/~stevenscurwood/.
I came of age believing South Africa was a cause. It also turns out to be a beautiful place with a population
committed to a spirit of reconciliation. This is the only country I know that has voluntarily given up its nuclear
weapons, and where it is assumed that government must be absolutely dedicated to building the bridges among the black,
white and coloured. Jennifer is working to help bridge the economic gap there by sharing her skills as an artist and
artisan with floor art project in the local community. I have done a few audio documentaries there and have taken
listeners on Safari. If you are in the neighborhood (in NH or SA) please stop by.
