Well, I seem to be living a fairly peripatetic existence, what with living in Vermont, an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, most of my actual work in Africa (and Eastern Europe and Asia), and a girlfriend in Maine. I am working for an international project that supports various peacebuilding efforts around the world, called "Reflecting on Peace Practice." Our job is to help people engaged in conflict resolution and other peace efforts to think about what they are doing, and then share their learning with other people doing similar work in other places. It's basically a global collaborative learning project regarding what works and doesn't work in peacebuilding. So I get to travel to all kinds of exotic places where people are killing each other! As you know, unless you have been living under a rock, there is no lack of candidate sites. If you want more information about that part of my life, you can visit www.cdainc.com/rpp.

Since I live in Vermont, but the office is in Cambridge, I telecommute a fair amount of the time. I do go into the office for a day or two each week, though. Walter Lenk and his partner Debby have kindly provided me a place to stay during those jaunts--only a five-minute walk from my office.

Meanwhile, I am on leave from a small non-profit organization in Boulder, Colorado (where I lived from 1994-2004), which also concentrates on conflict resolution, including mediation, facilitation, training, etc. That practice was more varied, although my work there was mainly on environmental and public policy issues, plus some organizational disputes. It is unclear, at this point, whether and how I will return to working with them once this international project concludes.

On the personal side, I bought a house in Brattleboro, Vermont last year, which is working out just fine (see picture), on the rare occasions when I am actually in town. I also seem to have a girlfriend (is that allowed when you are over 50?) who lives in Maine. That is more convenient than when I lived in Colorado, but we still have the buffer state of New Hampshire between us, so the old discussion of "your place or mine" has a 200 mile differential. But we get together most weekends when I am in the country and spend a fair amount of time dancing (New England contra dances). She indulges my interest in Scandinavian dancing on occasion too. I have been tootling on the harmonica for a number of years and plunking now and then on the guitar--and get together with various music buddies when travel permits.

As for Quakers, I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in Philadelphia, attending myriad meetings of the AFSC Board and associated committees. I attend meeting for worship when I can, but it has been hard to get too involved with a local meeting, given my travel schedule.

Well, that's about it for the major features. If you want the gory details feel free to e-mail.
